Jodhpur Jewels
The Mehrangarh, is one of India’s most magnificent forts. A museum displays faded palanquins, mirror-clad walls, royal palaces, exclusive artworks and royal artefacts. Built using golden-yellow sandstone in Indo-Saracenic and Western Art Deco architectural styles, the Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last royal palace built in pre-independence India. A museum exhibits famous artefacts, artwork, elegant murals, miniature paintings, artillery, and a rare collection of exquisite heirlooms of the 1930’s. Described as the ‘Taj Mahal of Marwar’, and built in 1906, the Jaswant Thada is Jodhpur’s royal cenotaph. A museum demonstrates Jodhpur’s history, whilst the grounds serve as a venue for concerts during music festivals such as the World Sacred Spirit Festival.
